If this is your first child you don't get the normal CAF that someone with two or more children would get. But I'm sure you are entitled to a different type of allowance. I have three kids and didn't even know about the CAF until I had my second child.

Sécurité Sociale are normally right on top of it as they have usually had you at 100% refund during the pregnancy and have been chasing you for the trimesterly visit etc. The doctor usually fills out a form with exact time of birth sex and birth weight etc. and you can give that to them (or does the doctor do that? I have forgotten).
For the CAF just write to them informing of the birth and attach a birth certificate.
