Thanks to all of you who took the trouble to reply. I will only be using a baby sitter on the odd occasion and certainly not on a full time basis.

kiwitrace - one off babysitters, take your own risks paying on the black if you like, but for anything regular which includes daycare and not just a couple of evenings out a month and you'll be for the high jump for employing and paying someone on the black.

To Lots, A bit over the top if it is just a casual (1 or 2 time stint).
I would have thought about 10 euros an hour.

Sorry, I posted prematurely! You need to pay SMIC, google the rates and the social charges involved.

CESU, chèque emploi, which will cover social charges for which you'll be charged but can reclaim on your tax return.

Otherwise it's working on the black .... not good :(
