A couple were recently prosecuted for leaving their 9 year old home alone for the weekend of 14th july so they could have a eekend away en amoureux if that helps

There isn't a minimum age from which a child may be left unsupervised. The only law which is close to this is one to do with the neglect of children aged 15 and below.

So the amount of time that a child can be left unsupervised without it becoming an issue comes down to:

The age of the child
Their maturity
Where they will be left unsupervised
How long and how often they are going to be left unsupervised
If they are with other children

 

You may leave an 11 year-old at home for 30 minutes alone but maybe not if they were to look after a baby.

Or you may leave a 16 year-old at home for an evening but maybe not for a week.
