That is exactly how I have understood it as well (and am in a similar situation).  I believe you will receive pensions from the different countries based upon the contributions you have made in each of those countries.

I believe what will happen is, his NI contributions stay on record in the UK when he reaches UK retirement age, the UK will pay him whatever pension he is due from them, regardless of where he happens to be at the time. So if he subsequently works in Germany or France and accrues pension entitlement there as well, he will end up receiving separate pensions paid by each country where he has contributed and earned entitlement, all administered by the country where he last worked,

AFAIK there is no other way of doing it.
