According to the property you reside in:

tennis courts, swimming pool, landscaping of grounds, parking, lift, central heating, guardien...

or if your pretentions are less lofty than the above: electric lighting in communal areas, cleaning of communal areas, water, maintenance and upkeep

Water can be either communal or individually billed for the apartment, as is heating. You can find a studio apartment where you will be paying charges well above 100 EUR per month or a 1-bedroom where you will be paying 100 EUR every quarter. It all depends on the building; so if you want to keep charges down, make sure that you pick a small building without all the fancy extras. Individual heating will also keep charges down, but then you have to pay the heating yourself and your costs will depend on just how hot you like to keep your living quarters. Living in a top floor apartment up on a hill with exposures on all four sides will cost you more in heating than an apartment that is protected by neighbouring walls and with only one exposure.

As a tenant, you have to pay some of the charges. Sometimes, they are incuded in the rent. Ask if they are, and if they aren't, how much extra you will have to pay monthly. You are also supposed to pay the taxe d'habitation, but not the taxe foncière (land tax).I hope this will help you!
