The Vauban (next to the cutting shop hairdressers - i think the street is called Rue Thuret) does a nice degustation menu with wines, good quality french food, white linen tablecloths. Oscar's (near place nationale) is ok too but the deco is a bit dated and the service somewhat austere!

I constantly go back to Chez Palmyre in old Nice. The menu is 14 euros for 3 courses and there are always around 4 or 5 choices per course. The food is always delicious local and fresh. A pitcher of the house wine is 5 euros. You must reserve ahead as it is always booked.

Another great restaurant in old Nice is Bistro d’Antoine. It’s a bit more pricey but not expensive.
