Thanks for the advice guys!

It was cool indeed and not that expensive. We took the 29 € menu and it was quite good and filling. The waiters were great and not obsequious but joking and sympathetic.

Note that you can have pasta for 8 € or a salad. It is quite affordable!

We visited the hotel after the dinner, great place!

If you do choose to eat at La Rotonde make sure she uses the bathrooms!

Well worth the visit, believe me!

The food is good too.

By all accounts the food is jolly good and menus are priced at the €20-30 mark per head. The décor is somewhat eccentric, being like the inside of a giant merry-go-round.

Do be aware that the Negresco tends to be closed from mid-November...

An option for the Special Occasion thing, of course, is to have lunch at the Chantecler. Although evenings there are pretty much for plutocrats, the fixed-price lunch is - while not burger-cheap - really pretty good value. And you ARE eating in a 2* restaurant... :-)
