I'd say the best thing to do is to speak to a French accountant or notaire who has experience of setting up such businesses. Non-professional advice (even from people who have done it in the past) can be dangerous, as it is often out of date.

Yes thanks mike.. I have made a business plan.. done masses of research but now need to know how to actually go about all this. I guess I need to speak to some french people.

It is crazy.. I have been living here for a few months now and only know 3 french people.. and one of them is my dustbin man! Hmm...

Jan, that could get you both in a lot of trouble...

The starting point is to decide what form the besiness should take - sole trader or SARL, probably. Then get the business registered - France is not a country where you can just "set up" and tell the tax authorities later. Then find out - I know this was the original question - all the health & safety legislation, and apply it.

Only then should you consider employing anyone...
