ADSL service requires a certain strength of signal on your telephone line. If you already have a marginal signal and you add an extension you may see connection losses and packet drops. If you don't feel you have a problem then use the extension...mine works fine with a 10m extension, but every house is different.

The ADSL filter is only required so that your telephone doesn't screw up your ADSL connection. So you need one filter per wall socket that has a telephone connected, the adsl modem itself doesn't need the adsl filter.

Thanks for your replies.  Shall continue with extension since I haven't noticed any noises or line disconnections.

Extension leads have an impact on the quality of the line (noise, etc.). They won't harm your equipment but might be the cause of unexpected loss of connection.Pumuckel
