without trying to be a smart ass, if you are going to have to spend that much money on a new door just because the handle is broken, either get a different type of handle or just put up with screw driver.

We have exactly the same problem here - they are aluminium framed doors which slide together to the centre and then lock (until the lock handle broke).  We too use a screw driver in the slot.  Since we have no local shops which specialise, I have been searching the internet in both France and the UK without success.  We had to have a new pane of double- glazed glass and even the fitter didn't know where we could get such a new lock & handle.  So if anyone can help, we too would be grateful.  We are in the Var near St. Tropez - even an internet site would be useful.

Quincaillerie Cassini , half way up on the left hand side of Rue Cassini in Nice specialise in door handles ancient and modern plus the mechanisms. Rue Cassini goes up from the Port to Place Garibaldi.

Good luck
