I'll see you there at the Phoenix.

PLEASE NOTE: There's been a change of venue for The Night of the Phoenix.

It has been moved from the Stade de Foot and will now be held in Place Victor Hugo in Cogolin. Everything else stays as planned.

Also, the full bank details for donations to the Fund to aid the families are towards the bottom of this page: http://angloinfo.com/wo/phoenix.asp

Yes it was horrible to hear. Especially since they died only a few hundred meters from my house. I feel like the battle on Miramar hill saved my home.

I will be attending the event in Cogolin and giving a donation.

OK - a fund has been set up to aid the families of the firefighters who died. I should be getting the bank details through tomorrow and will post them here. Also, a Bal Populaire, The Night of the Phoenix is being held in Cogolin on Sunday night, with all proceeds going to the fund.

... sorry,  brain has just got into gear,  I know who you mean by Mike H (I think!) and I'd second that suggestion if he's willing to do it.

Did you mean me? You said Mike H.

I'd be happy to try to organise it,  however I do not like handling other peoples' money unless it is cheques made out to the fund itself,  because of the complexities that can arise.  I know I'm honest,  but I don't expect other people,  particularly people who don't know me,  to trust me.

Also,  it might be better for someone who lives in the Var to do it and they could actually present it, on our behalf,  to the pompiers.

Any volunteers?

I had a quick look at their website :

and the ones for the Var :

but couldn't find anything specific re contributions.  If someone can find something,  I think it is a great idea for the 'Anglo' community to make a contribution to an appropriate fund - they probably have a 'widows and orphans' fund.
