No it means that your client would instruct their bank to transfer the money electronically to your account, for the amount and in the currency that you stipulate, or they may do it themselves online if they have internet banking.  It usually takes 3/4 days if coming from the UK, for example.

Thanks for your replies. Maybe its the terminolgy that I'm not understanding. Would a bank transfer be a cheque from an overseas bank (bank draft) made out in the currency of the recipient? If this is the case, I assume there is a charge to deposit it into an account here. Please excuse my ignorance also but how does a money transfer work? How does it differ in cost to a bank transfer for the payee and the recipient? Thanks for your helpJulie

If you go down this route make shure they use your full BIC and IBAN codes or you will get charged.

I've started asking for money transfers, as you get slapped with a huge charge if you deposit a foreign cheque or money order--even if it is in Euros.

We do the same by bank transfer in euros which seems to work.
