Petit Gervais, ou Carre Frais de Gervais, maybe, I use them for the icing because they are less fat than mascarpone

Thanks Jan .... I need to take my glasses to the supermarket obviously if I keep missing it - but maybe it's because I wasn't expecting it to be called "Cottage Cheese" in English that I keep passing it over.

A french mate who worked at Petit Casino recently tasted C.Cheese in The States - he said it didn't exist here ... I couldn't believe him with the wonderful array of fromage available - so am glad I posted the question.

Thank you All.   xxx A.

You can buy cottage cheese in the ready packed cheese section in Most supermarkets, it's in a green and white package. It's made by Danone
I have bought it in Casino, champion and auchan. It's actually called COTTAGE CHEESE
Cottage cheese is lumpy, cream cheese is smooth.

If you want cream cheese to top carrot cake, the best one is carrfour's own brand fromage tartiner. St Moret etc turns to water when you add icing sugar.

Thanks fidav!  If it's the chunky stuff meaning little balls .. it is exactly what I'm after ... I'll even brave the hoards at Carrefour for it.

Cheers !  xxx A.

Depends what you want it for ... if you want to make a traditional topping for a carrot cake - using cottage cheese, then use marscopone instead - just add icing sugar or vanilla sugar to that. If you want to spread it on toast or make something savoury ... no clue! Please let me know when you do. I have seen something labelled cottage cheese in Carrefour (in the packaged cheese section .. obviously) but it is the chunky stuff, which I don't like!!
