Laptop switching itself off

For some reason my laptop has just started to switch off for no reason, - 3-4 times in the last few days. It doesn't seem to matter how long it has been on but it would usually have been on for a few hours. Does anyone know why this has just started to happen? It has regular anti-virus scans etc. and is under three years old. Thank you for any help.

Hi,

Still having shut-down problems?

Have you introduced any new software or peripherals to your laptop? (prior to this issue)
What make and model is your laptop?
Does this happen both when on mains power and only battery?
Does it completely power down or does it do a restart?

There are a couple of things you can try to solve this issue but I would need to talk you through the process (presuming you're not a techi?). Let me know via email if you want me to talk you through the fix.

Might be the battery. I bought an Acer and the instructions manual clearly mentions that the battery can be recharged approximately 1000 times -ie 3 years if you recharge daily.
