Yes the serious ones appear to all be out. News from the local Pompiers in La Grave and Luceram is that there are ground crews still in Luceram, L'Escarene and Piera Cava with helicopter air support.

Since the big ones were put out 2 days ago there have been 5 or 6 smaller fires starting up here and there around the area, however the wind direction has been blowing the smoke towards Sospel and away from the coast.

That at least was a blessing at least for us as we had spent a week chasing hot embers around the farm and forest. Touch wood our water supply lasted and we had to wet a few acres every evening when the wind carrying the embers would arrive.

The Pompiers have asked that practically all mechanical work be stopped in the hills now, like chainsaws, strimmers, tractors etc. For example a fire started the other day in Les Novaines after a woman parked her car on the grass and the still hot catalytic converter set it all alight. She lost her car and almost her house. So be careful out there.

I've updated the pictures we took from our 'control room' and although most are from 7 kms away (except for the Laghet one) you can still clearly see how dramatic it all is.

There are 4 pages of pics and you can find them here

Regards,

Mike

There aren`t any.

The occasional small one - but they always happen this time of year.   No big ones though.
