Yes, it is possible to obtain a replacement card through the Ameli site - they will send you the form to complete via post which will need to be mailed along with ID photo.

Normaly, IF you didn't throw it out, you should have received a paper 'ATTESTATION' which is more valuable than a Carte Vitale which only serves for the machines of the doctors, chemists, dentists, etc.  The paper Attestation with its validity, can be present to one and all to cover you in the meantime.

Go to your CPAM personally, early in the morning, to declare the loss (they like to see a face), together with the usual papers and to apply for a new one which may take time as usual.  Ask nicely and they may give you a duplicate Attestation updated (if lost also) to cover for the immediate months ahead.

Not sure if you can do it on-line but no need to go to the prefecture! Go to your local CPAM office (check that on pages jaunes) and ask for the forms to fill in. Fill them in, get id photos to put with them, add demanded justificatifs, drop off at same CPAM office & wait

best of luck

the website for the CPAM is ameli.fr & you may be able to sort it through there if you have your social security number to hand
