I use Bouygues Carte Nomad because with the 44 EUR "recharge large" you get six months to use up your credits and eight months to receive incoming calls. I don't use my portable a lot for making calls, so this suits me fine.

With all plans, if you don't recharge after a certain amount of time, you will lose your phone number.

I believe that with Orange you may have the option of English, but with Bouygues everything is in French.

For comparisons see: http://www.francemobiles.com/carteprepe.shtml

try this company for buying a french sim Card. they have been very helpful to me.   Also this company is ideal if you are buying in the UK to travel to France.  Free incoming calls and reasonable rates on other areas

Hi Shaun,

I think that with all of the pay as you go cards, the credit runs out after a certain time limit, the number stays though so you are fine to use it for incoming calls. I bought an Orange pay as you go Sim card from Carrefour and it has been great, the reception is really good. The credit last about 3 months I think and it was only about 20 euros from memory

Cheers

Tim
