If the old hard disk still functions - even if the operating system may be corrupted and won't boot up - it should be possible to install it as a second drive in almost any desktop or tower PC (running Windows) and copy off the files you want.  If the drive has hardware problems then you you're looking at paying a lot of money to a data-recovery specialist firm.

I'm in Flayosc - I could do for you if you bring me the old PC.

The old one is a 5 year old PC that runs Windows (95 or NT - can't remember). It is not working - does not turn on. Probably because I didn't turn it on for about a year...

I want to transfer it to a LaCie Hard Drive. If it has an operating system, I don't know about it. From then on, managing those files with my Vaio laptop should be a breeze.

Thanks but I do not have the equipment nor the technical knowledge to access (let alone copy) a hard drive (outside the PC) that the FNAC has not been able to do. I am afraid I need a professional.

there are several ways of doing this but it depends on the type of hardware and operating systems you have. there are several utilities that will copy hard drives or data on the fly just look on the net.
