It's all relative.  People winge about how expensive it is,  but there are reasonable prices to be had, especially if you stay away from the coast,  for which you pay a penalty of worse roads,  but generally more pleasant living conditions and more space for your money.

How many bedrooms are you looking for?  Do you want a flat, house, something on an estate (domaine)?  Swimming pool, parking ....   How far are you willing to drive each day to work .....  The permutations are endless.

It is hard to find good inexpensive long term rental accommodation but it does exist.  The local estate agencies are for various reasons not much help,  they will look down their noses at you if you want to pay less than about E2000/month for a 2/3 bedroom place, and they will shrug their shoulders and dismiss you, telling you that 'ca n'existe pas',  but they are liars.

Your best bet is word of mouth, colleagues, or bulletin boards.

Good luck.  I work in Sophia so if you need any information,  let me know.

How expensive is long term rental accommodation and is it readily available ?

Bearing in mind that this is not exactly a throbbing metropolis, my answer would be "Very expensive" and "hard to find"
