You do not say if you have taken the laptop to be assessed by a technician or no - nor do you say just how much of a "drop" it actually got.

Dropping laptops is not the best thing to do, but the damage could be minimal - particularly if the laptop was not actually operating when you dropped it - and it was not dropped more than a foot or so.

I dropped one down a flight of stairs once - it was repaired in a matter of hours and is still working today - and working a lot better than I am.

Even if it is damaged beyond repair - it is unlikely the Hard Disk itself is a writeoff, and if that is the case, it could easily be removed, and its data copied to a new hard drive.

Any adequate repair shop should be able to do this for you - but make sure first that it is in fact damaged beyond repair. Most makes are manufactured to withstand shock.

there is a guy in antibes
avenue thiers (cant remember the name of the shop)
he helped me when my laptop crashed, he took out the whole hardrive
