San Remo - opinions please...

I'm currently living in Nice (and speak French) and now have the opportunity to move to San Remo.

I would like to know people's opinions of the place - I have visited a couple of times but know little about it. It appears to be relaxed and much more 'holidayish' (as Antibes/Juan les Pins is to Nice).

Workwise, it won't be a problem as I work from home and my girlfriend works in Monaco and can therefore commute.

Language-wise it could be a problem. I don't speak Italian and wouldn't even qualify myself as a beginner. I've been told that 'everyone' speaks French and that when you know French, Italian quickly follows due to their similarities.

Has anyone moved there (or elsewhere in Italy) and is in a similar situation to me?

Are there any English speaking places (pubs, clubs, whatever)? I seem to remember seeing an Irish pub but as we all know, that isn't always an indication of 'english-speakingness'.

Any opinions on moving there?

Paperwork? General hassles? Plusses? Negatives?

I'd greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Steve
