More accurately, a SIRET number is the registration number associated with a place of business (the shorter SIREN, of which the SIRET is a superset is the one that relates to the business itself). Both are issued by INSEE.

The Register of Commerces will also issue an RCS number (identical to your SIREN number, incidentally) if your business is "commercial", as distinct from artisanal or professional.

If you go to your local Chamber of Commerce you will be able to get advice on what formalities your particulat business needs to go through, and all the relevant paperwork (unless you're an artisan, in which case the Chambre de Métiers is the right stopping-off point).

Hello Anthony !... a siret number is the identification of a company, you can be asked for at any moment, like an identity card, it is generally delivered by the "Tribunal de Commerce" in a special office called "Greffe". You might better phone them up before, asking where is that service now, I would think for Nice, it is behind Lycee Massena now.patricia
