Then it could be possible as there huge expanses of geraniums on some of these balconies and the song is wonderful - not a birdsong I've heard before in this area of Nice !

my book says they're shorter and fatter in appearance than a sparrow, with short, upturned tail. Eat insects found in tangled cover so if the geraniums are dense..... Other alternative is the dunnock which looks like a slim lady sparrow but appears to be a ground feeder so praps not likely in an appartement block. Wrens are a "secretive...... but widespread species in temperate zone of northern hemisphere" Has an explosive song apparently.

So, in brief, yes it's possible!
