On Googling, I find that ophtalmologues in France may leave something to be desired, in terms of access to services, consistency and thoroughness.

Does anyone know of a good ophtalmologue in this area, or indeed, of bad ones to avoid!  There seems to be a very limited choice.  Or would you recommend getting an eye test in England instead?

It depends what you require.

If you have a prescription, you only need an optician.

If you need a prescription you will need to go to an opthalmist, then an optician.

If you have mutuelle cover, it will depend on the % cover that you have paid for as to how expensive it will be.

My advice, is that if you have a prescription (French or English), and do not have good mutuelle cover, do it on line with a company like specs4less.  I have done it and saved a lot of money this way.  There are other internet companies that do the same thing, but it depends on exactly what you need.

If you don't have a prescription, get a French one and then consider doing the internet option.

Good luck
