Best lasure?

Thanks for all the advice.  I finally opted for Zolpan lasure called 'Satizol' which has an 8 year garantee and is oil based.   Hopefully this will be a good choice.

Choose an oil based paint rather than an acrylic (you can tell which is which because the acrylics are water wash for the brushes, oils are white spirit).  Acrylic paints are nicer to use, and cheaper, but in severe heat, can peel and will not last was well as an oil paint.

Avoid painting in severe heat (I wish....) or in the damp, make sure the shutters are thoroughly dry and well prepped (rubbed down to a smooth and stable surface, with little gloss left).  Apply two coats, following the instructions on re-coat time: it IS important.

 Zolpan do a good range of exterior paints in both acrylic and oil, mixed for you on choosing from a huge range of colours.  Ask nicely to borrow their colour swatch, you may need to leave a deposit.  These paints are not cheap!
