There is a Conad and a Standa in Bordighera. But they are not very big. If you take the coast road towards San Remo, just before San Remo there is a Coop, but again not very big. Coming out of San Remo, again on the coast road, towards Imperia/Genoa there is another Conad and a GS. GS is fairly large but still not what I an looking for.

Last year I was at Lake Garda and there was a hugh complex with shops, cinemas and a hypermarket, thats what I would like to find somewhere within 1 hour of the border.

Jan, As far as I am aware, they don't exist in Imperia. Shopping is a more specialised experience in Italy. You would probably find something on the edge of Imperia or Genoa.

Paul,

Depending on the size of the job you are doing there are generally some good bargains to be had locally, in France.

Back when I was tiling etc. I used "Magasins de destockage".  These places buy up the unused tiles from the big tiling companies who for evident reasons don't go too far into the calculations of exaclty how many square metres they need, preferring going a bit over and then selling off the unused lots.

I used a shop in Carnoles (just before Menton) but have recently seen ads in the "Bonjour" and "The 06" without noticing anything more than their existance. The choice may be limited as may be the total surface available for a given tile but the prices were (and I suppose still are) interesting.

From what I have heard Italy is not as cheap as it was.

Good Hunting

Mee too, the largest I found was Conad between Vintimiglia and Bordighera.  Its about the same size as L'Eclerc at Vence.  Great quality, though.

Hi Paul,

I've been looking along the same lines.  I've been to Vintigmilia and Borgidhera but not yet to San Remo.  I haven't found any out of town shopping centres, but along the main road that goes through these 2 towns I found quite a few bathroom/kitchen shops.  They're very up market and the prices reflect this, although they seem to be cheaper than their equivalent up market competitors in France.  The next trip will be to San Remo - I'll update this message with any info I find.
