Hello,

Thank you for the phone number, but I have found a solution for this poor hedgehog.

I am not specialised in hedgehogs, and I felt something was wrong with this poor baby, that we called Destin.

I therefore contacted a lady who has a passion for them and who has experience in rescuing them. She had a look at him and started handling him in the perfect way. Within 2 hours, here is what happened and what we have learnt about Destin:

- He is a 2 years old male.
- He is extremely skinny. He weighed only 400gr. He should weigh 1kg. Would not gain weight. Very weak.
- His belly was very swollen, and his pooh smelt horribly bad. Probably infested with worms.
- Lots of flees.
- Seems blind. Is it the lack of vitamins? Maybe, we'll see if he gets back to seeing. If not, he can't be released.
- He still had quite a big peace of harsh grass stuck in his eye (behind), and one in his ear. Both were removed with twizers by this fantastic lady.

Now, after 4 days, he is a different hedgehog. He has already gained 30gr, he is more lively, and he smells much better. He is still under treatment, and it seems to work.

Kind Regards,

Tania Burrows

Hi,

Yes, the collegue of the person I meant is the one from Cagnes sur Mer.

If there is no major health issue with the Hedgehog you are looking after, I can take him if you want. I live in a house with a garden, and there are lots of hedgehogs in the residence. I am not an expert, but it sounds like I can deal with it.

Only thing is that I would need to have him dropped at my place, in Villeneuve Loubet. My number is 06 22 96 62 23.

Thank you,

Tania Burrows

I also live in an apartment, which might not be ideal, but would be happy to help. I live in Antibes. If you haven't found anyone more suitable, email me.

Is this the association in Cagnes sur mer ? If so I have called them and they have too many to take any more ,as he is not too injured, he doesn't need to go to the rescue centre.Another few days of eye drops and he can be released in a suitable area.
He is eating really well, they are a little like ladradors !! the more you give the more they eat, but I feel a few days of building his body weight up will do him good.I have let him have a few runs in the garden and he is ready for action !!
But I am going away and was really hoping there would be someone out there to take him before I go.
