Also, you can follow 'Vlagprotocol' on Twitter: https://twitter.com/vlagprotocol

They post updates when you are allowed to hang out the national flag. The updates on their twitter feed are in Dutch however, so you have to use Google Translate.

Thanks for the quick response. This makes sense from what I have seen with Dutch flags hanging out, but still weird to me those days are all bunched together across the year, with only a week between the first and last.

This is a list of the days during the year that Dutch government offices are required to raise the Netherlands flag. Those in bold lettering are the days most Dutch people also hang out their flag.

31 January: Princess Beatrix’s (the former Queen) birthday

27 April: King’s Day

4 May: Remembrance Day (half mast)

5 May: Liberation Day

May 17: Queen Maxima’s birthday

Last Saturday in June: Veterans Day

Aug 15: Official end of WWII

Third Tuesday in September: Prinsjesdag

Dec 7: Princess Catharina-Amalia’s birthday

Dec 15: Kingdom Day

Hope this helps.
